DC's Christmas Message 2021

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜ 2021 What a year it has been! I wanted to thank you for everything you have been doing to make Scouting fantastic in Rushcliffe! Hopefully you and your families are well and managing to avoid catching Covid. Over the last 12 months we have managed to return to a much more normal scouting programme and all being well this will continue into 2022. I would like to say a big thank you for all your help and support over the past year. You have been amazing putting up with a return to lockdown, technical difficulties, putting up with all the changes put in place and thank you also for all the training undertaken as I know it hasn’t always been easy. I am really hopeful that District Camp will finally be able to happen, St George’s Day no longer a virtual event and a presentation evening is planned for all those who have achieved Top Awards over the last 2 years as well as the many exciting activities organised within your groups over the year. Relaxation of Covid Rules

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜ Firstly, I would like to thank you all for the amazing job leaders and all volunteers have been doing across the District for the last 15 months keeping Scouting active across Rushcliffe. It has not been easy but with each new change we have made alterations, written yet more Risk Assessments and kept young people engaged with Scouting. I am humbled by the combined actions of each and every one of you and I would like to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are waiting to see how The Scout Association, in conjunction with the NYA, will react to the most recent relaxation of COVID measures. It seems a little of an oxymoron that as cases are rising amongst our young people, we are going to be entering a new phase in dealing with this pandemic. I understand the logic and sincerely hope this proves to be a step forward during the summer months. Earlier today my youngest son came home to inform me he was one of around 10 pupils no...

Founders Day #ThankTwo

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜ On 22 February every year, millions of Scouts around the world gather at local, national and international levels to celebrate Founder’s Day. It is the birthday of Lord Baden-Powell (1857-1941), the pioneer of Scouting. Founder’s Day is a crucial event in the Scouting calendar when members renew their Scout Promise reaffirming their commitment to the core values of the Movement. As a small child I always wore my Brownie uniform to school on 22nd February along with many other children in Scouting and Girl Guiding making the day a really special celebration. This year we are doing things a little differently and taking the time to thank our fabulous leaders and volunteers across Rushcliffe and the rest of the country. Perhaps you could think of a way to thank your leader this Founders Day here are a few ideas on how to say thank you  https://www.scouts.org.uk/news/2019/november/8-meaningful-ways-to-thank-your-volunteers/    or per...

DC's Christmas Message 2020

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜  As we approach Christmas and the end of the year it is normal to reflect on the past year’s highs and lows. This year we do the same but it is important, that whilst acknowledging the lows, we do so with positivity.  It goes without saying that  2020  will go down as a year like no other, where we lost freedoms that we would normally take for granted, none greater than the ability to socialise face to face with family and friends.  We have seen this impact on Scouting since March, turning upside down how we normally deliver every day activities and most especially cancelling all nights away events. We must remember restrictions placed upon us all have been in response to the most significant pandemic in living memory where many have lost their lives. None the less we look forward to feeling the benefits of a vaccine and the lessening of restrictions in the New Year so we can once again enjoy each other’s company w...
