Relaxation of Covid Rules
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜
Firstly, I would like to thank you all for the amazing job leaders and all volunteers have been doing across the District for the last 15 months keeping Scouting active across Rushcliffe. It has not been easy but with each new change we have made alterations, written yet more Risk Assessments and kept young people engaged with Scouting. I am humbled by the combined actions of each and every one of you and I would like to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart.
We are waiting to see how The Scout Association, in conjunction with the NYA, will react to the most recent relaxation of COVID measures. It seems a little of an oxymoron that as cases are rising amongst our young people, we are going to be entering a new phase in dealing with this pandemic. I understand the logic and sincerely hope this proves to be a step forward during the summer months. Earlier today my youngest son came home to inform me he was one of around 10 pupils not infected or isolating in his sixth form and The Becket School have decided to return to online teaching for the next week for his whole year group and I know many families are in similar situations.
Whatever The Scout Association decides it is also fine if you feel you wish to return to virtual scouting or continue following the existing COVID risk assessments until we break up for the holidays. Whatever action we are taking please be kind to yourselves and make sure your section is comfortable with the measures you have in place. If you are informed a young person in your section has caught Coronavirus after being at a meeting, we are being asked to report this through the scout website https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/getting-back-together-safely/knowing-what-to-do-if-something-goes-wrong/
I hope that you and your families are all keeping well and I look forward to when we can all get back together for Scouting in Rushcliffe!
