Jennifer Tinsley

By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜ I am sorry to announce the passing of Jennifer Tinsley earlier today. Jen passed away peacefully earlier this morning surrounded by her family. Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers at this time. Jen was an active member of 1st Ruddington Scout Group first joining in January 2013. She held a number of roles at the group as Cub Scout Leader, Scout Leader and Group Scout Leader. Jen also recently joined the Rushcliffe District Team as a District Advisor. I and many young people who attended the group, will treasure our memories of Scouting due to the cheerful enthusiasm Jen brought with her. She showed courage and bravery fighting her illness and will be sadly missed at the group. We thank her for her service to Scouting and know that there are many whose lives have been enhanced by her example and dedication. We send our heartfelt condolences to Chris and their three children.

Review of the Year: 2020

Image
By Adam Dearnley - District Media Manager  ⚜  2020 has been a strange year, we made the most of it when we could and improvised when we had to.  We learnt about Scouting at home and we explored the Great Indoors!  It's been a difficult year for many of us but a lot of good things have happened as well.  Take a look at the video below to see some of the best bits.  Happy New Year! H opefully 2021 will be better and we can return to all of the activities that we love, but haven't been able to do recently.  Have a Story? Please email  media@rushcliffescouts.org.uk

Message from the Mayor

By  Councillor Sue Mallender - Mayor, Rushcliffe Borough Council  ⚜ One of the most enjoyable events I attended last year as Deputy Mayor of Rushcliffe Borough Council was one of the presentation evenings at Rushcliffe Arena for Rushcliffe Scouts in the autumn of 2019 and I was looking forward to the 2020 presentation events. As there were no events taking place this year I am sending all young people in Rushcliffe Scouts and all their leaders a message for New Year 2021 instead.  In 2020 the wonderful  Rushcliffe Scout leaders have been working hard providing virtual scouting throughout lockdown and face to face meetings when possible. There have been virtual camps, campfires over Zoom,  scavenger hunts, activity days, and challenges set for young people. Thank you to all the Leaders for doing such a fantastic job in difficult circumstances. In 2020 the young people have been brilliant and risen to the challenges they faced to keep learning #SkillsForLife....

DC's Christmas Message 2020

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜  As we approach Christmas and the end of the year it is normal to reflect on the past year’s highs and lows. This year we do the same but it is important, that whilst acknowledging the lows, we do so with positivity.  It goes without saying that  2020  will go down as a year like no other, where we lost freedoms that we would normally take for granted, none greater than the ability to socialise face to face with family and friends.  We have seen this impact on Scouting since March, turning upside down how we normally deliver every day activities and most especially cancelling all nights away events. We must remember restrictions placed upon us all have been in response to the most significant pandemic in living memory where many have lost their lives. None the less we look forward to feeling the benefits of a vaccine and the lessening of restrictions in the New Year so we can once again enjoy each other’s company w...

Chairman's Christmas Message 2020

Image
By Tim Kirby - District Chaiman ⚜  Hi to everyone, I write to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.   2020 has been a fantastic year for innovation and embracing change and although my greatest wish is that we can start meetings in 2021 without saying “you are on mute”, so many people deserve applause for keeping Scouting active and moving forward this year, both on line and face to face. Thank you all for what you have achieved. Our celebration of Christmas may be different this year, personally I am saddened that I am not able to visit my children or grandchildren, however, I would ask you to spare a thought for 2 Scouting families, who, in the last week have lost loved ones.   Roy Brooksbank Roy was introduced to Scouting by the late Bob Collingwood, and soon became Scout Leader at 1 st West Bridgford for some years before taking the SL role at the combined 1st/2nd Troop when the 2 Groups amalgamated. He led the troop through successful...
