Welcome to our new District Youth Commissioner

Image
By Fiona Burrows - District Commissioner ⚜ I am delighted to welcome Will Cullen to the role of District Youth Commissioner for Rushcliffe District. Will has been within the scouting movement within West Lancashire and has recently joined as a leader at 1st Sutton Bonnington Scout Troup. He has good experience from assisting within group and district at West Lancashire and plenty of enthusiasm. Will has joined Rushcliffe as he studies at Sutton Bonnington Campus and will be getting in touch with groups over the next few weeks as we start back in the autumn. I hope we can benefit from his experience from within another District as he learns about ourselves here in Rushcliffe. William is contactable via email: dyc.william@rushcliffescouts.org.uk I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jacob Piechota as he stands down from the DYC role. Jacob has been a brilliant role model during his time as DYC and has continued to encourage all sections to be #YouthShaped as well as shaping...

Mini Bus Hire Available

Image
By M ark Greenhalgh  - Radcliffe Methodist Youth Group ⚜ My name is Mark Greenhalgh and I run a Youth Group at Radcliffe Methodist Church. We have an open DofE Centre and have a 15-seater minibus that we use for expeditions and events. We also hire out the bus to other none for profit organisations. We see the value of using a minibus and so groups can be able to afford it we only charge £40 a day and £20 per half day. We run the bus similar to the way John Green ran The Scout Bus at Bingham. We are members of the Community Transport Association, and the bus is booked in for regular safety checks. The bus is based at Radcliffe-on-Trent, and we are very flexible when people collect and return the bus. We also have two box trailers, one double axle 1400 kg braked trailer and the other a 750kg un-braked trailer.

Hollygate Climbing Wall

Image
By Steve Day - County Activity Team ⚜ We have been doing work on the Climbing wall at Hollygate campsite to bring it back into use, this is now complete, and it has had its yearly inspection. So, the next step is to create a large team of instructors that can run sessions or help to run sessions, so that we share the load around the District.  We aim to run the bookings very differently and will have a fixed calendar for the year and a rota of adults to deliver those sessions, very much like we do at Hoveringham.   Those sessions will be bookable on the Notts Scouts Adventure website, some will be evening and some weekend sessions. Generally, they will be 2-hour sessions so the max you will need to commit to at any one time will be 2½ hours.      To kick things off we have a training/assessment night on  Tuesday 24 th  August  2021for adults who want to help with this. We then have two sessions booked on  Saturday 28 th  August , the fir...

Jenny Ewers

Image
By Rowena Best - Beaver Scout Leader, 4th West Bridgford ⚜ It is with great sadness that I am sending this email to advise the passing of our friend Jenny Ewers (Hawthorn). Jenny joined the leadership team at the 4 th  as a Beaver leader in April 2016, but her link with the group went back 18 years when she first brought her sons Dan and Jonny to the Cubs and Beavers. Such was her admiration for how the Group provided young people with unique opportunities that Jenny responded to my plea for leadership help. I was at the point of closing the Beaver Colony as I needed someone to help with the planning, administration, and delivery of our programme. She has been my rock since, and has provided both the Beavers and myself with countless hours of fun and friendship. Jenny not only trained to be a leader so that she could be an active and invaluable member of the colony, but she also became an active member of the 4 th  executive committee. I know her help and support will be great...
